Discover Bang Krachao, Bangkok’s breathtaking “Green Lung” - a lush oasis nestled within Thailand’s bustling Thailand’s bustling capital city. Just 7km from downtown Bangkok, this 16-square-kilometer urban paradise offers an unforgettable escape into nature that most travelers miss entirely. Our comprehensive travel guide provides the perfect itinerary and detailed map of Bang Krachao for exploring by foot or bicycle.

Created where the Chao Phraya River curves, this man-made island reveals another older side of Bangkok - one where mangrove forests, elevated wooden pathways, and traditional Thai teakwood villages transport you back in time. Despite being visible from Sukhumvit’s skyscrapers, Bang Krachao remains one of Bangkok’s best-kept secrets, all miraculously preserved from the city’s rapid development. Unlike Thailand’s famous southern beach island destinations, Bang Krachao doesn’t boast beaches or coconut palms. Instead, it offers something uniquely authentic: old temples, a vibrant weekend floating market, green areas, canals, sustainable local communities, and an extensive network of cycling paths winding through lush tropical vegetation.

Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, bird watcher, or a curious explorer seeking Bangkok’s hidden gems, this tranquil green sanctuary gave us an unforgettable day trip experience, and was just minutes from the city center.

Luxury

Mid-Budget

We chose to arrive in Bang Krachao in the afternoon after exploring the Khlong Toey Market which is a very easy walking distance from the Khlong Toei MRT Station, then once we were done at the market we got to Wat Klong Toei Nok Pier via inDrive.

Spending a night is in our honest opinion - a must to see the evening in this peaceful part of Bangkok. Watching the village life evolve and wind down with a backdrop of birdsong is truly magical.

This gave us ample time to explore every corner of the Bang Krachao without trying to rush the itinerary.

We gave our bikes in a the park where we rented them, and then walked all the way to the Wat Bhang Nam Phueng Nok Pier. We crossed the river to the Bang Na Pier, to get a quick InDrive to the Srinagarindra Train Night Market (Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin). This is right by the MRT Yellow Line: Suan Luang Rama IX Station (YL15), Exit 1, allowing you to get to your further planned accommodation in Bangkok later that evening.
